I’m working on an outline for a projected book on short story writing. Won’t be out for a while (since, until I have pro sales, I lack some credibility); but I’ve already learned enough to begin the outline, if not to fill it in completely.

Nice outline, reminds me of workflowy
Just curious, Mike Reeves-McMillan, why are you so interested in writing about writing lately?
Lots of answers to that one, Traci Loudin.
I work on the projects that come into my head.
I’ve been trying to find good books on craft, and I think I can do better than a lot of the ones I’ve found.
I wrote the first one because I saw a need, and had fun writing it, and got a good response, so I’m thinking about a second one.
Writing about something helps me understand it better.
Nice. Yeah, off the top of my head I can’t think of any good resources on writing short stories.
Damon Knight’s Creating Short Fiction is excellent, and I plan to take his ideas and build on them (hence the references to “Knight” in my outline).
Otherwise, all the “how to write short stories” books I’ve sampled have been trite and superficial.
Orson Scott Card’s “Characters & Viewpoint” is my favorite book about writing.
I keep hearing good things about that one.
