I thought at first that “human wave” SF might be like “noblebright fantasy” (which C. J. Brightley and I, and others, are writing). But once you click through to one of the linked articles which (unlike this one) gives a clear idea of what “Human Wave” actually is, it seems more broadly defined than noblebright – though it does share a generally positive approach to fiction.

A new old genre … the doomed hero passes the baton …
Hm, the only thing I got from that was the idea that I should write good books 🙂
Well, I hope I do.
Possibly they were confusing “wave” with the French equivalent: “vague”.
I agree with you Mike Reeves-McMillan that the human wavers seem not to have their sub genre together yet.
Interestingly i got to them by googling ‘noblebright sf’. I think there are a lot of people out there as unsure of what they are writing as I am.
My problem with attempting to write into any genre is that shaping happens whether intended or not, that’s not necessarily good for the story.
Like you say Steve Turnbull just writing good books should be enough. It’s hard to get ‘found’ without genre labeling.
