Brin, somewhat less ranty than usual (yes, this is him being less ranty), makes a good point here about different kinds of stories: the Solitary Chosen Hero or the ensemble cast of ordinary people, representing a whole functioning civilization.

For the weekend: my own impudent, off-axis take on the 50th anniversary of Star Trek! How diametrically opposite Trek is, from Star Wars, in every moral sense. And you can see this in one trait – the size of the ship. Size does matter! Come find out why.
There’s a less ranty version? Iiinteresting.

Brin is more subdued, less ranty than typical in this piece.
I enjoy David Brin’s science fiction, and some of his politics, but most times that I read one of his posts, I get the feeling “No, something’s wrong with that argument, the points he makes are interesting, but that isn’t how society actually works or is likely to work.”
I stopped following him. Couldn’t stand his posts.
Craig Hatler Do you find him to be a bit Libertarian?
Walter Roberson I suppose that’s an apt appraisal.
Not quite that simple, but those are his leanings. It’s more the rantiness that’s annoying.
