I’d just like to say that I was writing about people getting extra robotic arms that they could control with their minds in about 1984.
In a novel that was never finished, and eventually morphed into a completely different novel that was (fortunately) never published. But still.

That may have been where I got the idea, now that I think about it.
I think I saw some Robert McCall space art (early ’70s NASA stuff) with a space suit with extra ‘waldos’ on it as well.
Even now, I bet Japan has some working proto-type for senior assisted livng use.
There is an exoskeleton suit in Japan designed for senior centers and hospitals – for the orderlies. They can lift another person much easier and with reduced risk of injury with the help of the suit. Japan’s changing demographics, the rapidly aging population in particular, are driving geriatric care innovations.
Ah, here it is: wired.co.uk – Watch Panasonic’s power-lifting exoskeletons in action
As a former combat medic (trying to lift 220 lb Marines in full kit sucks), man, I woulda loved something like this.
