Interesting story, but I think the picture may be a little misleading. The caption makes it sound as though it is showing light from solar power. As best I can tell, the big pool of light is Pretoria/Johannesburg, substantial cities which I would expect to use mostly conventional power. The bright point at the southern tip of Africa is Capetown.
