  1. And it turns out it didn’t mean what I thought it meant. I was thinking “the presence of these people makes others uncomfortable because they threaten the stereotype”, but it actually means “because there is a stereotype about how someone like me behaves, there is a risk that I will conform to it and so underperform”. Both are interesting.
