If your smartphone is part of your mind – and this article makes a strong case – then a lot of people have had their minds hacked by Russia (and various other bad actors with an agenda, of course, including profit-driven marketers).
You could take this as a starting point for an SF story in which technology and the mind were much more closely integrated than they are through words on a touchscreen.

Yeah my smart phone is an auxiliary storage unit for my mind. So in that sense it’s part of my mind. It’s just not one of the parts that generally gets to make decisions. There are other parts of my mind that also don’t usually get to make decisions so this isn’t an entirely new thing for me. My limbic system for example rarely gets to make decisions on its own except in really unique circumstances.

Then you are walking around with only half a mind. How have you been coping?
In fact a lot of what I do is about organizing things so my limbic system doesn’t get called on to make decisions. I carry fruit around with me so that my limbic system won’t decide that we need to eat candy now now now now now. I participate in manners so that my limbic system wont suddenly decide to punch that guy in the face.

Go on. Punch him. It will make things so much better.

Yeah I’m smaller than him Ben Key so I should probably go with sneaky rather than batshit confrontational. Which is why my limbic system doesn’t get to make the decision.

You can take him. Remember, you are super-girl and how likely is he to have Kryptonite?

Donna Buckles makes a good point. Your higher executive functions should be making your decisions. Sadly, many people do not know this.
