I’m reading Robert Olen Butler’s thriller series now and loving it. I’d be curious to see how he tackles SFF. I’m not a SFF reader, but he’s an author I’d willingly following into an unfamiliar genre.
His thrillers follow genre conventions pretty well – but they’re peppered with flashes of deep insight and layered meaning and beautiful prose characteristic of literary fiction. It’s the best of both worlds.
