This is why it annoys me when so many scifi fanboys scoff when I say I don’t even try to read classic scifi anymore. Let me read contemporary male writers and leave these good ole boys in the dust with their archaic notions of gender and sexuality.

Murray Leinster at least tried; his female characters were often scientists or engineers or military officers, like the men, although he seldom if ever made them protagonists. But apart from him, the classic guys weren’t great at writing women.
