Oh, it’s much higher further on, Andy Brokaw – the gully slopes rapidly off to the left of the photo. This is the end nearest to the city. The mass grave is on the other side.

Andy Brokaw It would seem that readers would have that problem too-the reality being different than what they see in their minds. But does it matter much? It does some-depending on the scene and if later they have to change their pictures but normally would it matter that much?

Rita de Heer You have a point but I recently took a workshop that talked about that in one week. The importance of giving the reader something in the way of descriptions so they won’t be disappointed later or have to rethink their presumptions about a certain building etc. As in they may picture a house with a slanted room but later find it has a flat roof when something important happens up there.

Point taken, Louis Doggett it is very necessary to keep all your facts straight. I meant generally. It’s good to have them straight at the beginning or you’ll spend all your time chasing back to find where you said so-and-so and what was it you said?

I had imagined the bridge being a little higher… But it’s neat to see it. Too bad you couldn’t toss in photos from the Gryphon Clerks universe too. 🙂

I can see how setting would influence other aspects of writing.

I don’t think it matters, Louis Doggett, people are going to imagine things differently however it is in the author’s reality.
