Good, if somewhat depressing, story. It’s a little ambiguous. I think the protagonist is a crazy old man who has created a fantasy of being a superhero to hide the fact that he is, at the end, a failure. But I’m not absolutely certain that he isn’t a superhero somehow trapped in an alternate timeline where he lost his powers.
Either way, he dies at the end.
