Annual Review Roundup and Recommendations for 2025

It’s New Year’s Eve here, and I just posted my annual roundup of the books I read in the previous year on my review blog. I’ve been doing this for 12 years now, but have changed exactly how I do it at least twice so far, and plan to change again next year (to realign my star ratings with Goodreads and Amazon). Continuity and change: we have them.

In that post, I highlight what I thought were the 25 best books, out of the 132 I enjoyed enough to recommend to someone else. If you like what I write, or have similar taste to me, you’re likely to find something on that list that you’ll enjoy.

Mike Reeves-McMillan lives in Auckland, New Zealand, the setting of his Auckland Allies contemporary urban fantasy series; and also in his head, where the weather is more reliable, and there are a lot more wizards. He also writes the Gryphon Clerks series (steampunk/magepunk), the Hand of the Trickster series (sword-and-sorcery heist capers), and short stories which have appeared in venues such as Compelling Science Fiction and Cosmic Roots and Eldritch Shores.
